This is the story of another another viral TikTok craze that I somewhat wanted to despise but couldn’t quite bring myself to do so. but they didn’t. It’s not that I didn’t believe the concept was enticing in the first place. It’s just that everything felt a little too straightforward. It goes without saying that cooking a block of feta with bursting tomatoes would be delicious. Is it, however, good enough to bring down the internet? Yes, I must admit, is my reluctant response. It’s a stroke of genius.
My ideas are summarized here.
- There is no need to adjust the temperature of the oven. The original recipe asks for baking the feta and tomatoes at 400° for 30 minutes, then turning the heat up to 500° for the last 10 minutes. With only 30 minutes in the oven, my feta was well on its way to becoming a lovely shade of golden brown on top. I believe it is important to maintain the temperature constant in order to avoid scorching additives like as garlic and herbs (see my next comment)
- You may explore with other ingredients than simply tomatoes and feta. Sliced shallots will become sweet and jammy, and smashed garlic will infuse the olive oil with a rich flavor. My brother has been raving about baked feta pasta for a long time, and I’ve finally gotten around to preparing it after hearing him say it was great. This is a trend that I will definitely get behind, despite the fact that I am not very fashionable (and do not even have a TikTok account). I should not have waited so long before giving it a go. Everybody else seems to be infatuated with it, and I am no exception! Because of its growing popularity, feta is no longer in low supply, which means you shouldn’t have to worry about running out of the cheese anytime soon.
The Short History of Baked Feta Pasta
A recipe for feta pasta was first shared on Tiiu Piret’s blog in 2018, and it gained widespread attention a year later when Jenni Hayrinen posted her simplified version of “uunifetapasta” (Finnish for “oven-baked feta pasta”) on Tiktok (andher blog). This version of mine is based on the same concept as the original, with a few tweaks that I personally enjoy, such as a generous quantity of roasted garlic, fresh spinach, and additional herbs. I also enjoy a medium bite-size pasta dish in this setting.

- 2 pints (20 oz) grape tomatoes
- 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Prepare the pasta: Meanwhile, cook the pasta until al dente in salted water (I use 1 tablespoon salt and around 3 or 4 quarts of water), following the directions on the packet of pasta. Save a little pasta water and use it to boil spinach: Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water, and just before draining, pour and immerse spinach in the spaghetti water to finish cooking it (it should wilt almost instantly). Remove the spaghetti and spinach from the pot. Combine the feta mixture: With the back of a wooden spoon, mash the tomatoes, garlic, oil, and feta together until well combined. Toss in the pasta and herbs: Combine the spaghetti with the mixture, along with the basil, parsley, and red pepper flakes
- Toss to combine. thinning and seasoning: Reduce the consistency of the combination by adding a few spoonful of pasta water at a time until it reaches the appropriate consistency. Taste and season with salt and pepper to your liking. Serve when still heated.
- Make use of the pasta you have on hand. Pasta such as campanelle, rigatoni, cavatappi, rotini, penne, bow tie or cavatappi are excellent choices
- Include a protein source. Towards the end, you may add some cooked meat (chicken breasts, ground beef, or ground turkey would all be fine choices)

- My personal favorite feta to use in this recipe is the Murray’s brand, which can be found in most grocery stores. It’s expensive (I pay $10 each block), but it’s well worth it. It has a wonderful taste and melts more smoothly than crumbled feta
- Do not use crumbled feta! In this dish, block feta cheese is the only way to go. You don’t want any of that powdery covering on the block, and the whole thing will stand up much better during roasting. Also avoid low-fat feta, which will not melt as well and will not taste as wonderful as regular feta. Don’t scrimp on the extra virgin olive oil. This is critical since we want a thick sauce and not dry pasta
- Don’t be shy with the tomato sauce. A lot of fresh taste and a mild sweetness are brought to this dish to balance out the sharpness. Make use of two boxes rather than simply one
- Cook pasta until it is about al dente to achieve the nicest texture. When the pasta is stirred with the heated sauce, it will soak it up and become a little softer. Make an effort to finish the pasta at the same time that the feta and tomatoes will be finished in the oven. Baked Feta spaghetti is a fantastic method to make a delicious pasta sauce. In a casserole dish, bake a block of feta cheese with tomatoes, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper until the cheese is melted. Your vegetables and sauce bake together in the oven while your pasta cooks on the stovetop, and then you combine them all together to create an excellent baked Feta Pasta dish.
- Prepare the vegetables: In a 9-by-13-inch casserole dish, mix the tomatoes, asparagus, 1/3 cup olive oil, half of the minced garlic, salt, and pepper, and set aside. Toss the ingredients together to form a space in the center. Place an 8-ounce block of feta cheese in the center of the plate and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon olive oil and some freshly ground black pepper. Bake for 30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or until the tomatoes begin to burst. Is it possible to add protein to feta pasta? You may substitute chicken tenders for the asparagus if you want. My sister made this dish with a pound of chicken tenders, which she roasted in the same pan as the cheese and tomatoes for added flavor. Is it possible to use something else in place of the tomatoes? How to make the Feta with Tomatoes
Baked feta is one of my all-time favorite recipes to prepare! I used to make this pasta as an appetizer, along with crusty bread and crackers, before I started eating it regularly. Now that I’ve gotten my hands on some spaghetti, forget about it! This is the only thing I’m going to do from now on! The nice part is that the technique remains the same! At begin, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, in a baking dish, combine the cherry tomatoes with the olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Once everything is baked for 30 minutes, heat the oven to 450 degrees and bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the feta is golden and the tomatoes have burst, until everything is done.
Remove the baking dish from the oven and toss in the garlic and basil until well combined.
This is also the time of year when your entire kitchen will begin to smell delicious!
It’s time to serve the meal if the sauce is properly creamy. If the sauce appears to be a bit dry, add 14 cup of pasta water and mix well – this will help loosen the sauce and make it smooth! That’s all there is to it! Dinner has been prepared!

THE SIZE OF THE BAKING DISH IS IMPORTANT- Make sure you use a tiny baking dish so that the tomatoes are crammed together and touching each other.
