When In Rome Pasta Bar

Italian Restaurant – Virginia Beach

  • Excellent dining establishment! This was my first visit and meal experience, and I quite enjoyed it. This is without a doubt the best restaurant in VA Beach, and I predict that it will become the busiest restaurant in VA Beach by the end of the year! I travel a lot and eat at a lot of different places throughout the year. This is without a doubt one of my top three favorite places to eat right now. I’m looking forward to returning in a few months. It was impossible to choose a favorite dish from the menu. The octopus appetizer, salmon appetizer, veal piccata, tiramisu, lemon marscapone cake, and chocolate toffee cake were all outstanding. Several of us ordered different sweets, which we then split amongst ourselves. Everyone had a great time at their supper! We didn’t take any photographs this time, but we will definitely do so next time. Due to the tiny size of the establishment and the limited number of available tables, it is recommended that you make a reservation for a specific night. A. L. Amy L. The food was excellent, and it was our first and hopefully final visit. We were fortunate that my husband managed to come across a review of When in Rome since else we would have never heard about it. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The Veal Parmigiana was a massive portion! The service was fantastic, and the environment was equally as good. The sweets were really delicious. I’m almost hesitant to submit a review since I’d prefer to keep this place to myself for as long as possible. Thank you very much for a delicious supper! — Linda F. and others We knew as soon as we came through the door that this restaurant was going to be fantastic! It’s warm and inviting, and nicely designed! The wine and meal were both excellent. Because it was difficult to decide, we shared various dishes. The five-parmesan appetizer, as well as the caprese salad, were both outstanding. The veal marsala and the gluten-free veggie spaghetti with prawns were very delicious! When in Virginia Beach, make a point of visiting When in Rome! Suggested by Kathy S. Every aspect of this establishment, from the proprietors to the menu to the freshly painted black ceiling and clean white walls, has been completely redesigned. Chef Marco de Rossi, originally from Rome, is the owner and operator of the tiny, open kitchen, which serves a pretty broad menu of traditional family dishes. In collaboration with Rob Kearney and Sommelier Don Paul, he has created a restaurant that you should be aware of and visit. A report by Judy Cowling for The Virginian-Pilot The cuisine is very delicious! We are visiting from Massachusetts and will be here for one week only. We had a hankering for Italian food, but we weren’t looking for anything pricey. However, as soon as you step into this modest and unassuming establishment, it becomes clear that the restaurant provides outstanding service as well as wonderful, authentic Italian dishes. Don (the proprietor) greeted us instantly and with great warmth, and he was engaging and inviting. We had an excellent waiter, Selena, who was quite kind, polite, and helpful. I ordered the Carbonara, which was thick, savory, and really delicious. It was my daughter who requested the tortellini, which was served attractively and tasted just excellent. Despite the fact that my 9-year-old gave his pesto a perfect score, my husband enjoyed his lunch as well (it was a meat sauce, but we can’t remember what it was called. Each and every course of the dinner was a pleasure to eat. The meal was excellent, and the service was excellent. The food at When in Rome has been the highlight of our vacation, and when we return to Virginia, we will surely return there again. – Gabrielle L.
  • I would highly recommend checking out this establishment! It’s quite comfortable and adorable! The cuisine is delicious, and the staff is kind and accommodating! It’s a terrific place for a romantic date night or even if you’re just searching for a peaceful place with delicious meals! Suggested by Nancy S. Outside of Florence, Italy proper, this is by far the greatest Italian meal my wife and I have ever tasted. It was a little restaurant with a wonderful setting, romantic candlelight, and really delicious food! There is no exaggeration. This is a destination you do not want to miss out on. Chef Marco de Rossi communicated with us in both Italian and excellent English, and he came out to each table individually to check that the meal and wine pairings were to our taste. I’M OUTRAGED WITH THIS! We’re heading back tonight to pick up our kid before her ring dance performance tomorrow night. It is both casual and sophisticated at the same time! Unquestionably a new favorite! The author, Nicholas R., It was a fantastic birthday celebration! We had no idea there had been a change in ownership, and we were very taken aback! I adored the old house, but I was really taken aback by the new! The dinner was incredible – every bit as magnificent as it appears! The service was really excellent! I understand that we were not the only customers, but we were treated as if we were! Every detail was meticulously attended to by Don and Amber. Thank you very much! This has quickly become our new favorite restaurant! — Allison R., et al. New ownership, a fresh chef, and a new menu are all on the horizon. Our wonderful supper was served in a newly refurbished restaurant, which provided the ideal mood. Chef Marco has imported the dishes from his family’s home in Rome and transformed them into a superb dining experience. We started with the Salumi e Fornaggio appetizer for two, which was a medley of cheeses, ham, and salami that was delicious. We split the Insalata di Tonno, a salad of grilled octopus and vegetables. The octopus was delicate and savory, and the sauce was delicious. For the main course, I went with their trademark dish, Osso Buco, served over roasted sweet potatoes and entire mushrooms in a demi-glaze with Parmesan risotto, which was delicious. My wife went for the Orata alla Griglia, which was filleted at the table in front of us. Dessert consisted of tiramisu, which is cooked in-house by the chef. The wine selection is fantastic, and we decided on a San Marzano Primitivo from the sommelier’s recommendation for our meal. We will most definitely be back. Thank you very much, Chef Marco. The author, Paul D., says: It’s an absolute necessity! Beautiful! Everything about our experience was just breathtaking! With each sip, your mouth waters, and the wine was nothing short of spectacular. All of the staff members made the entire event even more delightful. For our girls’ night out, it was the ideal pick! I can’t wait to get back there. You will not be disappointed with the trip from North Carolina! – Christina H., et al. In the four years after it opened, my wife and I have visited this hidden gem no fewer than four times. From the minute we walk in the door to the moment we walk out, we are treated as if we are members of the family. Let’s speak about the cuisine for a moment. Chef Marco never fails to impress. NEVER! The meal is always really delicious, and the dishes are always picture perfect. Yes, there are other Italian restaurants in the region, but none quite like this. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Personally, I’ve sampled more than half of the menu and am looking forward to exploring the remainder. There is certainly something for everyone here, from the appetizers to the sweets. Ryan C., et al. Last night, I went out to a fantastic supper with some friends. The cuisine, beverages, and service are all of the highest quality! Chef Marco is extremely enthusiastic about his cuisine, and it is evident in his cooking. Delicioso! — Tammy B., and others

Pasta alla carbonara is a Roman classic that has grabbed the fancy of people all around the world|Zoonar GmbH / Alamy Stock Image Amatriciana, gricia, carbonara, cacio e pepe – the prominent pasta classics of Rome are among the most well-known dishes in the entire world. In reality, the city has a long history of pasta quality, which means that even on the hottest summer days, you must indulge in a plate of the dish. With our advice, you can be certain that you are receiving only the best.

Otello alla Concordia

Restaurant, Italian, with a price tag of $$$ This charming small eatery sticks out among the throngs of tourists who flock to the area around the Spanish Steps. It serves all of the traditional Roman fare, but its pasta dishes are particularly noteworthy – try the spaghetti all’Otello, which is made with a simple tomato sauce and chunks of fresh tomato, or the homemade ravioli, which are stuffed with spinach and ricotta and then slathered in tomato and basil sauce.

Bistrot64

Restaurant, bistro, Italian, and other types of establishments $$$ Chef Kotaro Noda has been awarded a Michelin star for his contemporary interpretations of classic Roman cuisine. This restaurant’s cacio e pepe is a must-try; it’s a simple but delicious combination of cheese, pepper, and pasta that garnered glowing reviews from Stanley Tucci on a visit. Do you want to go all-out? The tasting meals are incredible value, especially when you consider the Michelin star designation.

Agustarello al Testaccio

Restaurant, bistro, Italian, and other types of food establishments $$$ Known for his innovative interpretations of classic Roman cuisine, chef Kotaro Noda has earned a Michelin star. A simple yet secret combination of cheese, pepper, and pasta is what you should have here. When Stanley Tucci visited, he raved over the cacio e pepe. Do you want to go all-in on something? Given the Michelin star rating, the tasting meals provide excellent value for money.

Pommidoro

It’s no surprise that film director Pasolini was a devotee of this traditional Roman restaurant located in the university district of San Lorenzo, northeast of Termini station – in fact, it’s been a gathering place for film and cultural types for decades (and it’s been run by the same family for more than a century). Despite the fact that it specializes on grilled meats, the pasta here is amazing — try the terrifyingly bright carbonara.

Piperno

Photo by Marina Spironetti / Alamy Stock Photo of a restaurant serving Italian, Mediterranean, and vegetarian food for $$$. Piperno, which has been in the same family since 1860 and has been serving up some of Rome’s most famous meals, is one of the best places to sample them. Its handmade pasta, which includes fettuccine, agnolotti, and tagliolini, is its hallmark dish. Its ricotta and spinach ravioli, served in a cream sauce, is also a standout dish, as is the gnocchi amatriciana, which is also a standout dish.

SantoPalato

Restaurant, Italian, with a price tag of $$$ Sara Cicolini is the skilled young chef behind this contemporary trattoria, which specializes in Rome’s famed offal dishes and is located in the historic center of the city. Despite the fact that she is from the southern area of Abruzzo, she is one of the chefs who is most dedicated to preserving the traditions of the capital.

While Cicolini is most known for her offal, she has also become well-known for her pasta, particularly her carbonara. She makes a fantastic cacio e pepe, and her amatriciana is also to die for.

Flavio al Velavevodetto

Italian restaurant with a large outside patio. $$$ Thanks to Flavio al Velavevodetto for the use of his photograph. Testaccio, a traditionally working-class neighborhood in Rome, has been regarded for years as one of the greatest places to enjoy authentic Roman cuisine. One of the greatest locations to start is at this restaurant, which is one of several that have been carved into the bottom of the Monte Testaccio hill. Avoid the open-air tables outdoors; you want to sit inside, among mounds of antique Roman amphorae, because Monte Testaccio is not a natural hill, but rather an ancient garbage dump.

Pastificio Guerra

Restaurant, Italian, with a price tag of $$$ When you’re slogging through a long day of touring, nothing but pasta will do – but there are times when you just don’t have the time to stop for a leisurely restaurant lunch. For example, Pastificio Guerra, which is located just off the Spanish Steps and serves both prepared pasta meals and fresh, uncooked pasta, is a good choice. If you plan on visiting at lunchtime, it’s advisable to go during off-peak hours instead. In addition to her reporting, Emma Law has contributed to this piece.

Best Pasta in Rome: 18 Restaurants in Rome You Can’t Miss – 2021

The food in Rome (and Italy in general) is absolutely divine, to say the least. Authentic Roman cuisine such as spaghetti alla carbonara, cacio e pepe, spaghetti alla gricia (which is not exactly the same as carbonara), and potato gnocchi can be found at informal and excellent trattorias around the city. One thing I discovered while in Italy that I was unaware of was that different sections of the country are famed for different types of pasta meals. Additionally, neighboring regions will typically respect pastas that are not native to their own region and will not attempt to reproduce them in other places.

Isn’t that interesting?

Having Italian food in Italy is one of the most incredible experiences I can imagine, and it is a foodie’s dream come true.

There are just superior ingredients in Italy.whether it’s the fresh tomato sauce, the DOP-approved parmigiano-reggiano, or the pasta water that’s like liquid gold in their sauce, it’s just not something that can be recreated in the United States.” As a result, you must eat your way around Rome, savoring all of the famous Roman cuisine that the city has to offer.

  1. In other words, the name of a restaurant may seem differently on Google Maps than it does on TripAdvisor or Google than it does on the real printed sign outside of the restaurant.
  2. I’m going to provide a list of my favorite restaurants in Rome, as well as some recommendations for the greatest pasta in the city.
  3. If you are unable to make reservations, keep in mind that Romans dine late (restaurants become quite crowded about 8:30/9), so if you arrive at a restaurant just when it opens at 7 or 7:30 a.m., you will almost always be able to grab a table as a walk-in.
  4. I’d want to add one more thing to the conversation regarding service.
  5. Everyone, for the most part, is kind, although you may run across folks who work in restaurants who are so busy that they don’t have time to smile when you approach.
  6. It’s also possible that they’ll forget to put it somewhere.
  7. While these inconveniences might become unpleasant, it is crucial to remember that the meal is the most important element of the experience.
  8. So, while I can’t guarantee that every restaurant on this list will provide excellent service, I can guarantee that you will be able to discover delicious Roman cuisine at each one of them!

Best Pasta in Rome: Restaurants in Rome You Can’t Miss

There is nothing better than the food in Rome (and Italy in general). The greatest pasta in Rome is mainly found in informal and tasty trattorias, where you may sample traditional Roman dishes such as spaghetti alla carbonara, cacio e pepe, spaghetti alla gricia (which is not quite the same as carbonara), and potato gnocchi. While traveling around Italy, I learnt something new: particular areas are famed for unique pasta recipes, which I had no idea about before to my trip. Others will typically appreciate pastas from locations other than their own, and will not attempt to replicate them in other regions.

Isn’t it interesting?

Food in Italy is one of the most incredible treats I can imagine, and it is a foodie’s fantasy come true.

There are just superior ingredients in Italy.whether it’s the fresh tomato sauce, the DOP-approved parmigiano-reggiano, or the pasta water that’s like liquid gold in their sauce, it’s just not easy to recreate in the United States.

In addition, one thing I observed about restaurants in Italy, particularly in Rome, is that a restaurant’s name might be spelled in a number of ways.

In some forms, other words such as “osteria” or “vineria” may be substituted for “trattoria,” while in others, additional areas like as “Roma” or “Toscana” may be put on at the end.

I’m going to provide a list of my favorite restaurants in Rome, as well as some recommendations for where to get the greatest pasta.

For those who aren’t able to make appointments, keep in mind that the Romans eat late (restaurants really start to fill up about 8:30/9), so if you arrive at a restaurant exactly when it opens at 7 or 7:30 a.m., you will almost always be able to grab a table as an early bird.

I’d want to add one more thing to the conversation regarding service.

Generally speaking, everyone is kind, although you may run across folks who work in restaurants who are so busy that they don’t have time to smile at their customers.

It’s also possible that they’ll forget where they put it!

While these inconveniences might become unpleasant, keep in mind that the cuisine is the most essential aspect of the experience.

Consequently, while I cannot guarantee that every restaurant on my list will provide excellent service, I can guarantee that you will be able to sample some delectable Roman fare when you visit.
